Sargent Alvin C. York Home

Perhaps the most famous American hero to come out of the First World War was Alvin C. York. His heroic deeds are portrayed in the classical movie, "Sargent York."

After his triumphant return from war, York and his long-time sweetheart, Miss Gracie Williams, were married by the Governor of Tennessee at a mountain ceremony attended by hundreds. The couple was given this home and farm bought with the donations of many thankful Tennesseans. Ten children were born to the Yorks.

Today the home and grounds are preserved as a Tennessee State Historic Park. Tours are offered and are usually led by York relatives.
