Bean Blossom, Indiana, Bluegrass Capital of the World

Bean Blossom is a tiny unincorporated community about five miles north of the small town of Nashville, in Brown County, Indiana, and 50 miles south of Indianapolis. It's not a world-class tourist destination by most people's standards, but others flock here from around the globe to the Buegrass Music Capital of the World. They especially come in June for the world's oldest continuing bluegrass festival.

Karen and I visited here over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday week-end in January, 2006, while staying nearby in the lodge at Brown County State Park, Nashville, Indiana. I found Bean Blossom particularly interesting because one of my dear old friends, Darvin Byrd, played rhythm guitar in Bill Monroe's original bluegrass band and Darvin speaks fondly of being here in years gone by.
